Tez to Shake Up Quick Commerce: Amazon’s Next Big Bet

/

Amazon India has advanced the launch of its quick commerce (q-commerce) platform, Tez, with the new launch date set for late December 2024. Originally scheduled for 2025, the move underscores Amazon’s commitment to strengthening its foothold in India’s booming q-commerce sector. This market has witnessed significant growth, with sales surging over 280% in the past two years.

Tez aims to offer hyperlocal deliveries, focusing on groceries, daily essentials, and even electronics, in under an hour. This move is seen as Amazon’s strategic response to competitors like Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, and Blinkit, which dominate the fast-paced segment. By leveraging its extensive logistics network and fulfillment centers, Amazon hopes to provide a seamless and rapid delivery experience to customers across major Indian cities.

The preponed launch aligns with Amazon’s recent expansion efforts, including enhancing its e-commerce operations in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, which now account for over 85% of its customer base. Analysts suggest that Tez could become a game-changer for Amazon India, offering opportunities to tap into smaller towns and semi-urban areas, where demand for fast deliveries is rising.
